A brand identity is crucial for any business to stand out among its competitors. It is the visual representation of what your company stands for and what it believes. As a designer, creating a brand identity that echoes the business mission, while appealing to potential clients, can be quite challenging.

Pacific Wharf Recovery, a sober living environment agency, requested a 70s-inspired design with a modern twist.

At our initial meeting, I sat down with Pacific Wharf Recovery’s team to learn about their business mission, values, and long-term goals. I also tried to get a sense of their target audience to tailor the design to their preferences. They wanted a retro vibe, unique to the 70s era, with a modern twist.

With the brief identified, I researched vintage-based logos, typography, and design elements from the 70s. This helped us understand the styles, typefaces, and colors significant in that era and modernize them to fit Pacific Wharf’s needs. I also looked into modern-day branding trends and design elements to incorporate them into our project, keeping the design up-to-date.

Once I gathered enough inspiration, I started sketching ideas for the brand identity. I created multiple brand boards with different designs and color palettes to convey the retro vibe. After presenting several potential designs, I listened carefully to their feedback about what they liked and didn’t like about each design. I refined the creative concepts accordingly to fulfill their remaining requirements. I also made sure the chosen brand identity’s color scheme, typography, and design elements fit their business mission and appealed to their target audience.

Once I refined the design, I began the final process of creating the logo and brand identity. I created various file formats, including vector, PNG, and JPEG for website and print needs. I also provided them with style guidelines, color palettes, and typography usage guidelines to maintain brand consistency in their business’ future endeavors.
